[ applause ] >> good morning, everyone. thank you. thanks for coming out. this is a great crowd as we commemorate and celebrate 107. i'm proud to be serving as your fire chief. we have many here that have shown up from the fire department. on behalf of the fire department we are proud of the city and the city's resilience and today is a perfect opportunity to remind everybody the importance and particularly the mayor who truly gets it, the importance of preparedness and helping each other out and knowing everyone's emergency plan and having plans for your family if you are not together and for your pets and we are also grateful to have three of the members of the board of supervisors. i think that maybe a record. thank you. they work hard. president chiu, supervisor wiener and our former fire commissioner london breed. a big shout out to the murphy family. i'm a born and raised san franciscan. i watched this bait-and-switch act from the america's cup how they tell us one thing and do another. there was very little community input it was shoved down our throat and oh, well, if you say something you'll be a target. so i think that coming from the community i want it's important that we keep this lines of communication open not just for the rich but for the poor and additionally we don't have access to laptops. it's important you guys do the right thing. i know you guys were elected and sworn in and i was there. i say you guys campaign. we are the people. it's not this - you know, those people come here a hired guns they have a job they're doing their job. i'm higher because i know what's right and wrong. we want to make sure we're part of this whole bureaucracy. >> thank you chair wiener, supervisors. let me agree that over 10 years you are the fourth member of the board of supervisors including myself that have tried to time limit and i'm hopeful that the fourth time will be

and there are many san franciscans that have told me the story of seeing the city for the first time, coming into oakland and taking the ferry across to their new home in san francisco. it such meaning that we hoped to capture some of that. and we want to remind people of the present and the future of the port, and how it touches their lives. this amazing team of creative people -- which i am not one. came up with these great ideas -- bless you, to do the pylons and the banner. the pylons you see over there -- i was supposed to do the slide show. the pylons you see over there is a concept, i think dan hodep came up to represent a historic part of the port. and to provide the concept of did you know, and that concept is something you find yourself repeating at a party. did you know why it was named dogpatch. did tu -- did you know that pier 15 was for the men that defended the port in the pacific. that was the part of historical and the did you know. i am proud that the work you see around you is done by port staff and interns. we did not use any outside consultants. as you see we have
